Disability Matters 2025 – North America

WELCOME

The 14th Annual Disability BRG
Summit

When: Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Where: Charleston, South Carolina

Location: Hyatt House Charleston Historic District

THE BRG SUMMIT WILL BE IN-PERSON AND WILL NOT BE LIVE-STREAMED OR VIDEO-RECORDED FOR PLAYBACK.

Do you bring your “whole self” to work? Many people with disabilities don’t, especially those with invisible disabilities. Covid has exacerbated this with the increase of invisible mental health related issues such as anxiety and depression.

Disability BRGs can help with that, but they can also assist with a host of other aspects related to disability inclusion. Disability BRGs have the power to exert influence when it comes to Learning & Development, Etiquette, Self -ID &  Disclosure, Reasonable Accommodation Processes, Employment, Physical & Digital Accessibility, Branding, Product Development, and so much more.

The key to success is multifold and includes:

  • An understanding who the BRG serves whether employees with disabilities, who are service-disabled, have age-related disabilities or who have children or other dependents with special needs.
  • Alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • A fully integrated Executive Sponsor.
  • Avoidance of a support group mentality.
  • An understanding of what the group can do directly versus influence.
  • Agreement about roles and responsibilities and integration with someone’s full-time job.
  • Understanding of legislative issues and practices.
  • Appropriate measures of success.
  • Understanding of the facts and related benefits of intersectionality.

Active participation by employees who have disabilities, who are impacted by disability in some other way, leaders, executives, and allies sends a clear message of company commitment to disability diversity, equity and inclusion.

Springboard’s annual Disability BRG Leadership Development Summit is open to disability BRG Leaders and their Executive Sponsors. Whether you are about to launch a disability BRG or have been leading one for many years, this Summit will encourage the development of new ideas and innovative practices that will successfully impact their groups effectiveness and sustainability.

      DAY 1

      ALVIN LAW

A man standing left-profile, smiling, and wearing a blue shirt.

Alvin Law is an international keynote speaker, 2-time Hall of Fame recipient, Emmy Award winner, and best-selling author.

In his 40-plus years of speaking, Alvin has spoken to more than 2 million people across 5 continents. He’s been inducted into the Canadian Professional Speakers Hall of Fame and the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame. What’s more, the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers recognized Alvin for his role in raising over $225 million for assorted charities throughout his career.

Alvin will share his story of growing up without arms and how he has persevered in the face of relentless challenges. He will invite you to see beyond what’s “missing” and discover the possibilities that are within your reach.

      DAY 2

      CODY CLARK

Cody Clark: a man in a blue shirt, tie and jacket, who is smiling.

Cody Clark is a 31 year old professional magician/autistic self-advocate from Louisville, KY. He was diagnosed with autism at 15 months of age and his parents were warned he’d never walk, talk, hold down jobs, or tell them he loved them. His parents’ tenacity combined with therapy services received from autism specialists and at schools allowed him to surpass all expectations!

He shares his magic shows and talks for audiences ranging from public library patrons, K-12 students, college students, educators, and corporate employees how autism makes him see the world differently and that he and others with autism have similar life goals and desires as anyone else. His favorite type of audience however, is when he gets to help others with disabilities become successful adults. His mission is to help people realize that differences like autism are nothing to be scared of – but rather a different way of thinking.

His past clients include major universities like University of Kentucky and Ohio State University, corporations like Energizer Batteries and Delta Faucet Company, and he’s even testified for the U.S. House of Representatives Small Business Committee! He can be found at codyclarkmagic.com or on social media as @codyclarkmagic.
