The US Labor Department's Office of #Disability #Employment Policy (#ODEP) has announced this years’ theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM) which takes place during the month of October. The theme is: "Because We Are EQUAL to the Task". According to ODEP, the theme reflects the reality that people with #disabilities have the education, training, experience and desire to be successful in the #workplace.
At the 2013 U.S. #DisabilityMatters Conference, held in April, in Jacksonville, FL, my 21 year old daughter who is a college senior and has numerous disabilities, delivered a keynote presentation about “#Expectations, Her, Her #Parents and Her #Employers”. In this presentation, Gretchen clearly illustrated that she has the education, training and experience as her peers and perhaps an even greater desire than most to be successful in the workplace. Yes, she showed that she is EQUAL to the task.
