California Revises Laws Concerning Disability Discrimination

Are you an employer located in #California? Similar to U.S. Federal laws, California law prohibits #discrimination against a competent employee because of a physical or mental disability. But did you know that California recently revised its laws concerning disability discrimination in the #workplace by broadening the definitions of #disability, reasonable #accommodations and the claim process? Employers need to be aware of their #obligations under the law in order to avoid costly complaints of discrimination. A #Reasonable Accommodation in California includes:

  • Modifying job duties
  • Changing work shifts
  • Allowing leave for medical care
  • Moving the work area
  • Installing mechanical or electrical aids
  • Permitting assistive animals
