British Communications Regulator: Ofcom

The British communications regulator, Ofcom, has decided to extend the access requirements it places on #UK #broadcasters to channels providing services to other countries in #Europe.

The #access requirements will be the same as those applied to UK domestic broadcasters including #quotas which, after ten years, rise to 80% for #captioning, 10% for #audiodescription and 5% for #signing. They must also promote #awareness by supplying information to electronic program guide operators about which programs are captioned, audio described or signed, and through a variety of on-air announcements and publications. Lastly they will be required to do regular reporting to ensure all access obligations are met.

Ofcom administers a comprehensive Code on #Television-Access-Services, which includes detailed guidelines such as caption quality.
