An oil company is in the news again, this time for firing an employee for leaving her workplace to seek medical attention for her conditions, interstitial familial pulmonary fibrosis and panic attacks. Unable to to reach a pre-litigation settlement through it’s conciliation process, the EEOC sued a BP One Stop store in Madison, WI, that’s owned by Meffert Oil and is seeking lost wages and compensatory and punitive damages for the employee and injunctive relief to end the discriminatory practices. This will be an interesting case to watch as EEOC will make it’s case that employers cannot force upon any disabled employee the impossible choice between necessary medical treatment and his or her job.
