Have you heard? Congress has passed legislation that eliminates the term "mental retardation" from federal laws.
The measure, passed by the House, on that will positively impact over six million Americans, changes the phrase "mentally retarded" to "an individual with an intellectual disability" in existing health, education and labor law.
This new language is consistent with existing language in federal law used by the CDC as well as the health arm of the UN and the White House. This law, known as Rosa’s Law passed the Senate last month and now goes to President Obama for signature.
